Our Pilots
To obtain a commercial pilots license, pilots must have flown 105 hours - all of our eleven pilots have well over 1000 flying hours each, with a total of over 50,000 combined flying ours. For you this means a flight with an experienced pilot, greatly enhancing your trip and your safety.
GBRHG currently employees full time and casual pilots, collectively accumulating and holding low-level approvals, external load and fixed float endorsements.
All pilots have extensive experience with over water operations, and low level flying in all its different forms including on-land oil and gas exploratory work, EMS experience, fire fighting, Antarctic operations, and long line sling work.
As a company we conduct in excess of 6500 flights annually, most in low level over water operations, and Piloting skills are continually kept at a high level through extensive in-house training.
Our Safety Program
Safety Management and accident prevention is a top priority within the GBR Helicopter Group. It is our companies policy to provide a safe and healthy working environment for staff, passengers, clients and visitors. This includes:
- In-house training of pilots and operations staff to national standards
- Helicopter Underwater Escape Training for all Pilots
- Minimum experience and flying hour requirements for all new pilots
- A comprehensive safety brief to all passengers
Our Locations
Our offices and helicopter pads are located in Port Douglas, Cairns Airport, and the Cairns City Heliport at the Pier Marketplace, each with our own helipads. On the Great Barrier Reef we have pontoons located at Agincourt, Arlington, Moore and Norman reefs.
In addition to these pads we can land at any airstrip and have permits to land in numerous locations across Tropical North Queensland, including Green Island.
If a new landing site is required to meet your needs, we will use all means available to us to secure permission or obtain the necessary permit, ensuring that your flight, your job or your event are not compromised.
Having one of the largest helicopter fleets in North Queensland, in addition to moving a large number of people, enables us to effectively support remote locations.
Our fully licensed maintenance facility based in Cairns with three full time engineers allows them to travel into the field where engineering support at remote locations is required.
