GBR Helicopters’ fleet modernisation continues with a complete overhaul of GBR’s Eurocopter AS350BA. Without going into the fine detail, it had a new engine fitted as well as the main rotor blades being refurbished and repainted. It was also fully repainted and newly upholstered.
Helicopter Health & Safety
A group health and safety training session was held at Hangar 10 during July, aimed at new reef crew and crew from our reef partners. We find that this is a dynamic way to teach and refresh skills needed on a daily basis.
Attendees were taught various aspects of helicopter safety and demonstrated best practice for carrying heavy objects and general tips on back care. Afterwards, the BBQ became the focus and lightened the seriousness of the evening.
Head photographer at The Cairns Post, Mark McCormack, once again utilised the services of GBR Helicopters to successfully search for and photograph Migaloo.
Operation Election! Our Horn Island operations have been busy over the last month delivering and retrieving the election ballot boxes for the Australian Electoral Commission. For those that aren’t aware, Horn Island is part of the Torres Strait Islands, a group of at least 274 small islands which lie in the Torres Strait, the waterway separating far northern continental Australia’s Cape York Peninsula and the island of New Guinea. Thankfully for our pilots, only 14 of the islands are populated.
Samsung utilised the services of GBR Helicopters to film some aerial shots of the Daintree region. The filming required a specialist gyroscopestabilised camera to be installed on the nose of the Bell Jetranger Helicopter. Samsung are creating a marketing film to play in all Samsung stores worldwide. The film will continuously play on big screens in all stores – great exposure for Far North Queensland!
The annual Wedding Expo was held at Paradise Palms in late July. It was an elegant evening affair with interactive displays, a fireworks show, wine tastings, and fashion shows. This year GBR Helicopters wowed the attendees with a helicopter as part of the display.
