frequently asked questions
Do you provide transfers from accommodation?
All of our packages include courtesy transfers to and from your accommodation on your day of travel except where indicated. If required, we can also provide transfers to and from the Domestic and International Terminal of the Cairns Airport. Our pickups and drop off cover the Cairns metropolitan area, extending to the Northern beaches and Palm Cove. We also offer transfers for flights departing from Port Douglas.
What do I need to bring when I go to the Great Barrier Reef?
Dress for the tropics and bring a hat, sunglasses, a towel and sunscreen. There is lots to see so a camera is recommended and bring some money or credit cards for drinks and souvenirs, in most cases lockers are available for individual use. If you are headed to Green Island there are food outlets, bars and souvenir shops in the resort area. Options on board the pontoon include scuba diving and guided snorkelling tours. Ask when booking if these or other options appeal to you.
Are there any extra costs?
The environmental tax is included in your rate when you are on a reef tour package. The prices do not include optional tours such as Scuba Diving, Sea walkers or Scuba Doo.
Can we take photographs in the helicopters?
All helicopters have clear windows which enable you to take some incredible photographs of the Reef and Rainforest. Some of the helicopters have windows which can be opened for photograph shooting as well; all we ask is that when taking pictures no part of the body or camera is placed outside of the helicopter, and straps are not to be placed around the neck for safety reasons.
Why are weights so important on a helicopter?
Like airplane flights, weights play an important role in helicopters. We need to ensure that our helicopters on all flights are not over loaded under the Civil Aviation Safety Authority regulations. For this reason we need you to provide accurate weights when booking. There is no need to be concerned as your weights are kept strictly confidential and you will also be weighed on arrival, including your luggage.
What type of helicopters do you have?
We have a fleet of 22 helicopters including Bell 206B Jetrangers, Bell 206L Longrangers, Eurocopter AS350B (more affectionately known as Squirrels) and Robinson 44’s.
How do I know which boat to get onto when coming back to Cairns?
When flying to the reef and coming back with a cruise company, all pontoons will only have one boat departing from the pontoon, and returning to the mainland.
What happens if the weather is bad?
If at the time of departure, the pilots deem that the flight cannot go ahead due to bad weather conditions and thus raising safety concerns, the flight will be cancelled. If this occurs we will make every endeavor to place you on an alternate flight that will meet your requirements. If this is not plausible a full refund will be offered.
What happens if I need to cancel?
If you cancel 24 hours or more before the time of travel there is no penalty. However if you cancel within 24 hours of the booking you will be charged for the full amount.
Do you have Torres Strait Helicopter Flights?
Yes, we are located in Horn Island as well as Cairns. Contact us to enquire what sort of flight you would like.
